Golden Shellback

I will believe this when I see it. I am sure to do this after the fact will just be really expensive and a hassle. I can imagine this will be sweet when someone buys the company/technology and then just sells all of their gadgets already waterproofed.

Is it time to start learning Mandarin?

This is fascinating video of the Chinese 60th anniversary parade. I love how combining slow motion with time lapse better conveys the shear scale that is China. If only running a country was as easy as throwing a parade.

Apple: Your full court press can't work indefinately

Notice the how often he mentions the phrase "partnership" or "collaboration" with the device manufacturer"

Dear Apple, get flash on the iPhone. Period.

From Adobe Labs:

When will Flash Player be available on the iPhone?
Adobe needs full support from Apple beyond what is available through the SDK to enable Web browsing of Flash-based content on the iPhone. While we have been working hard to make the browser plug-in available, without increased co-operation from Apple, it will not be possible. Adobe is therefore focusing our development work on the major smartphone platforms that are working with us to deliver the most innovative and complete web browsing experience. With more than 85 percent of the top 100 websites using Flash and approximately 75% of all videos on the Web using Flash, we still believe that Flash on the iPhone would greatly benefit the millions of joint Apple and Adobe customers.

Of course there is an App for That...

I didnt realize it but Auto-Tuning has been around for a pretty long time. We all new already that becoming a star no-longer requires any talent, this is the technology that makes it possible. Having a good voice is not required. Believe it or not, Cher was one of the first artists to not try and hide the use of it. She actually highlighted it, paving the way for TPAIN and others to use it almost exclusively.

After watching Auto-Tune the News for the first time a couple weeks ago - I kept thinking - someone has GOT to make an app for this. Of course they did...

I haven't dropped the 2.99 for the app yet - but man these dudes are gonna make a killing. You know every frat boy and his brother going to buy it, and wear this out faster than Chappelle's Lil John. Oh well, for now, it still makes me laugh real hard.

I wish I could actually pull this off at work.

shawty!!

Animoto: Slideshow 2.0

We have all had to sit through a boring slideshow. There is and never will be anything that ca make dozens bad and boring pictures interesting. But finally there is animoto which amazingly takes your best photos, and magically synchronizes them with professional quality visual effects, and your favorite music.

This is such a perfect example of cloud computing done right, it is no accident that amazon has made them a poster child of their cloud services.

I am also a huge Picassa evangelist - Once you have a web album in Picassa (or facebook, flikr, smugmug,OR photobucket!!) the integration to Animoto is beautifully simple.

After having of actually made slideshows "manually" in a video editing program - using animoto almost feels like cheating. There is now hassle with my computer freezing - or being tied up for hours while I try and render a 5 minute video. All of the heavy lifting is now done by the Animoto cloud.

You can make as many 30 second videos as you want for FREE. Try it - I promise it will take you less than 15 minutes. Once your mind is blown - use the link below to save $5 on the the membership to create unlimited full length videos for a year.

Canon T1i

I have always appreciated photography - but never had the patience for film - or low quality point and shoots. As a result my first camera was a DSLR. (The Canon Rebel XTI) The image quality, ease of use, and range of functionality - all at a consumer price point still excites me. The pain of my current gear depreciating is dulled (how convenient) by my excitement for the what the next generation brings. Just 6 months ago I was drooling over the new video functionality on the 5D. I thought I was being overly optimistic in hoping that this would be available at the rebel price point in a couple of years. Luckily the day I upgraded to the Rebel XSI - Canon announced the T1i and I was able to return the XSI without hassle.

The T1i of course leaves us longing for more. The lack of external mic input - Come on you cant be serious. Text book example of when the Marketing department has too much control over product development. Ridiculous...The disrespect - thats what hurts the most.

However, when I stop and think, and LOOK at what it can do - I am truly amazed. Its hard to say if Nikon or some other brand with overtake the lead - but for the time being the T1i is clearly the best buy available for an entry level DSLR. Somehow amazon is able to sell these at cost ($809 w/kit lens & free shipping).

Here is a great example of how technology like this is totally leveling the playing field:

That whole video was shot on a T1i. The ability to shoot something with such high production quality at a small price is truly amazing. Do watch on vimeo to appreciate the full HD quality. Its also important to realize that technology cannot replace skill and technique. To get output like that requires a lot of experience and creativity.

I have had the camera for a few months and still find myself forgetting that I can take such high quality video. After taking a number of cool stills of my brothers dog jumping off our boat - it kind of dawned on me - Oh yeah - lets get video of this!!

I think Canon themselves underestimated the demand for a DSLR with video. (And how quickly this demand would grow) My expectations for the next generation is going to be very high - and I cant wait to see what they deliver.

If you hadn't noticed already I also love vimeo. I have yet to find a better site for online video. The download speed and HD quality is unmatched.
